Eco-friendly first

AGC Glass Europe has claimed to have become the first glass maker to obtain the ‘Cradle to Cradle’ eco-certification, achieving the silver level for its float glass and magnetron-coated glass products.

As the name implies, ‘Cradle to Cradle’ (C2C) certification indicates that any materials used to make a product are either biodegradable or can be recycled at the end of the product’s working life, as well as being non-toxic. This principle is just one of AGC’s environmental policies and complements the company’s other green commitments, such as making efficient use of energy and water and pursuing a strategy of corporate social responsibility.

“C2C certification comes at just the right time to help position AGC and its products in a market that is ever more sensitive to good environmental practice,” the company said in a release. “Achieving this important eco-label also reflects the group’s culture in which care for the environment is one of four core values, accounting for more than 70% of the research budget.”
