BFRC Statement

Re: Companies registering on the new Door Energy Rating Scheme.

BFRC Ltd, the main regulator of energy efficient doors and windows in the UK, understands querying the speed of Door-Stop’s registration on the new Doors Energy Ratings (DER) Scheme.

There has also been some confusion over terminology used in recent announcements. BFRC would like to clear up any misunderstandings.

Door-Stop has announced it is the first door manufacturer to register on the DER Scheme. BFRC fully support Door-Stop’s achievement and statement, and approved the press release.

During registration there are a series of processes to be completed before licences can be issued. Door-Stop and other manufacturers are working their way through these and BFRC expects the first DER licence will be issued imminently.

Door-Stop contacted BFRC by email at the end of August after reading an early article about the launch of DERs in the glazing trade media. BFRC did not progress this until after the DER launch date of 1st September, and registered Door-Stop on 7th September.

Other door manufacturers and system houses (Veka, WHS Halo, and Synseal) have also registered applications with BFRC.

BFRC is delighted at the speed of registration and enthusiasm leading door manufacturers have shown and their desire to be on the scheme. The industry seems to appreciate the marketing potential of DERs and the benefits this accrues to the industry as a whole.

Any door manufacturer not yet registered with the DER Scheme is encouraged to do so. BFRC will work with them to speedily process and agree product scope and issue BFRC ratings for their product. BFRC will work with manufacturers to get rated doors onto the market as quickly as possible.

Fabricators using the above companies’ products will be contacted directly by their supplier who will outline how they may best take advantage of selling BFRC rated product.

Fabricators who work with other suppliers but wish to find out more about the BFRC DER Scheme, including how the rating process works, should contact BFRC direct:
