Spacer bar automation

Glass Systems is the first company in the UK to invest in the Lisec BSV 45 ANK for automated Swisspacer production. Swisspacer is the company’s preferred warm edge spacer bar at its largest manufacturing facility in Swansea, where it produces 23,000 sealed units a week.

The Lisec BSV 45 ANK can bend Swisspacer V and other types of spacer. The spacer bar is cut according to the optimisation target and then all corners are bent into a seamless connection frame in the automatic bending machine to produce sealed units of the highest quality. The new machine will be installed at Glass Systems in October, the same time as changes to Part L of the Building Regulations for England and Wales come into force.

National sales manager Kevin Pearce said: “We are delighted to be the first company in the UK to be able to bend Swisspacer on a bar bender. With the introduction of the new building regulations, there is a fantastic opportunity for growth. Investing in the new Lisec machine will enable us to take advantage of this.”

Currently, 8% of the sealed unit manufacturer’s capacity is dedicated to producing warm edge sealed units. But once the machinery is installed, this will increase significantly as demand for the best performing sealed units increases as fabricators meet the new building regulations.
