‘Eco-ISO’ achieved
Nicholls and Clarke Glass has obtained ISO 14001:2004 – Environmental Management System Certification for its main manufacturing sites. Stephen Forbes, managing director, said: “It took us a full year and a half to prepare our systems and practices for accreditation. We are now fully aware of the impact of our manufacturing on the environment and we are, at last, able to make quite a considerable difference in this area. Customers can now make decisions based on the environmental impact of their buying decisions, as well as the commercial aspects.” Nicholls and Clarke Glass has achieved accreditation at its sites in Dunstable, Fareham and Beckton (East London) which are the Group’s manufacturing operations and, therefore, the areas of the business which produce the greatest carbon dioxide emissions. Commercial sealed units are manufactured at Dunstable and domestic sealed units, including ultra-thin Eco-lite Slim units, are manufactured at Fareham while stock distribution, processing and fire resistant glass are supplied from Beckton. Stephen Forbes continued: “Only recently one of our biggest glazing customers benefited from being able to prove that it was sourcing glass from an ISO14001 Company when a customer demanded it.”
