27th February 2018

Windows in the SPECTUS Elite 70 system fabricated by Worsley Glass were specified for Wilburn Basin, a development of nearly 500 homes in four blocks around Manchester’s River Irwell Basin.

With a total of 1,200 windows, including stacked/ribbon windows, plus 440 sets of French doors needed, specifications required high levels of acoustic glazing on elevations next to busy roads, the railway line and a retail park, as well as complex wind load calculations.

awarded the contract to Worsley Glass. The two companies had worked together on previous projects and Renaker knew Worsley Glass had the quality and experience to deliver what was needed on time and on budget.

For main contractor Renaker, Worsley Glass manufactured the windows using the Spectus Elite 70 system in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey smooth on white foil. The windows offered an overall U value of 1.2 W/m² and the company achieved the dB ratings needed by using acoustic laminate glass backed with different thicknesses of low e glass.

Worsley Glass has worked with Spectus for over ten years Anthony Kilbourn of Worsley, which has worked with Spectus for many years, said. “We enlisted their help on this project to undertake the wind load calculations and advise on the products needed to meet the requirements, as well as with the calculations and coupling specifications needed on the stacked/ribbon windows.”
