GM Football Fives kicks off with £35,000 cheque handover
26th May 2015

GM Football Fives, the glazing industry’s charity five-a-side football competition has been hailed as a massive success after the inaugural event which took place at Birmingham City Football Club earlier this month, Alan Sadler, Managing Director of Profix and GM Fundraising team member said:

“We’d like to thank everybody who helped make the inaugural GM Football Fives such a great success, in particular the 128 players – with a notable mention to Malene Svendsen from ERA who played fantastically, both alongside and against all the male competitors as the only female player. Congratulations to Travis Perkins, who emerged as champions on the day, and a great effort from MB Frames/Oakley Green Conservatories for reaching second place, and Glazerite – the most senior team on the day – for achieving third place, an accolade only slightly overtaken by their victory in the evening’s dance-off against Quickslide.

“As well as the tournament itself, other prizes up included the Golden Boot, which was shared by Ben Jeavons of Travis Perkins, Matt Draper of Willmott Dixon and Callum Willmot from MB Frames/Oakley Green Conservatories, who scored six goals apiece. Player of the Tournament as voted for by the qualified referees – including ERA Home Security CEO Darren Waters – also went to Callum Willmot, who gained three votes throughout the day. The Spinning Penalty challenge provided a high proportion of the laughs and was admirably won by Quickslide’s Ben Lawrence. But the biggest presentation of the day came before the tournament kicked off, with the handing over to Hope House of the cheque for funds raised at the Spring Ball, which were in excess of £35,000.”

Gary Morton added: “I’d like to extend a huge thank you to the whole GMF Team, especially Alan Sadler, who put on a first class inaugural five-a-side event. Thanks must also go to Birmingham City Football Club for being such wonderful hosts and of course to the teams who entered and took part in a very competitive event. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up. A great day was had by all, and I think it is safe to say it will stay on the GMF calendar of events.”
