When Safestyle UK were looking for volunteers to take part in the three peaks challenge to raise money for charity, Promac Group Technical Support Manager Darren Wade was quick to sign up to the challenge. Keen to show his support for the four worthy causes, Darren explains:” When I heard that some of the guys from Safestyle were planning this event, I was keen to get involved. Not only because I wanted to be part of the fundraising, but also because you need to be reasonably fit in order to tackle the three peaks and I was up for the challenge. It involves walking each of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales and the travel between each, all done within 24 hours.
“The walk sets off at 5pm on Friday 6th July in Scotland and we will endeavour to walk Ben Nevis by 10pm. We will then travel 262 miles across the border to Scafell Pike and the plan is to set off on the walk at 5am the following morning. We will then travel the 235 miles to Wales for the final climb at Snowdon on Saturday afternoon. The main concern is that the travelling between mountains is out of our control and may cause us to lose time. We are also hoping for fair weather as walking in the dark will be troublesome enough, without having the elements against us too.
“9 people will take part in the challenge on the day and we will be walking to raise money for Bluebell Wood hospice - a charity local to Safestyle – the NSPCC, the RSPCA and Cancer Research UK.”
