31 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG
26th June 2012

When Rehau launched its 50th anniversary competition to find the oldest working installation of Rehau windows or doors earlier this year, it was confident that it would find an installation which was at least 25 years old, in line with the date when its Blaenau factory first began extruding profile in the UK.

However, the response to the competition surprised even Rehau with many entries much older than that and several coming from the early 1980s when REHAU in the UK was still importing profile from Germany.

The winning installation was actually from way back in 1981 and was submitted by Kayvex Windows in Bognor Regis who, quite appropriately, were one of the first fabricators to begin manufacturing in Rehau profile in the UK.

It is a fully glazed rear entrance door which was installed in Managing Director Ian Parrott’s own house in Middleton-on-Sea in 1981 and which is still in perfect working order 31 years later.

The door was manufactured in the 60mm S701 single chamber profile which was the forerunner to Rehau’s renowned S702 60mm system and, aside from new gearing and new low-E glass, is still operating with original hinges, gaskets and hardware.

Ian Parrott says: “Up until two or three years ago, I also had a whole houseful of windows which were fabricated and installed in 1981 and which were still performing well but eventually we took the decision to replace them with more contemporary looking, energy efficient alternatives. What is particularly impressive though is that the original REHAU door is still the same bright white as ever and it matches perfectly with the bright white of the new REHAU windows which are now installed.”

Glyn Rogers, REHAU’s regional Sales Manager visited Kayvex’s Bognor Regis showroom to congratulate Ian and to present him with his prize of a Panasonic G2 Lumix digital camera. As a reward for winning the competition, Kayvex will also feature in a special anniversary competition press advertisement from REHAU later in the year.

REHAU has also awarded 50 runners up prizes to other fabricators and installers who submitted entries to the competition, which Business Unit Director Wolfgang Gorner said had exceeded REHAU’s expectations and certainly achieved its objectives in terms of demonstrating the quality and durability of both REHAU profile and the installations carried out by its customers.
