GOING GREEN WITH PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS
26th June 2012

Solar Windows, a Rehau fabricator, has strengthened its ‘green’ credentials with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of its three separate factory buildings in Caerphilly, South Wales. The company, which manufactures in Rehau’s complete range of systems says the move is part of its overall environmental efficiency programme.

The arrays of photovoltaic panels are generating an average of 5,500KW/h of electricity and saving 4 tonnes of CO2 per month, making a significant impact on reducing Solar’s carbon footprint.

Bob Jenkins, Operations Manager at Solar Windows, says that the investment in the solar panels will generate not just an economic payback for Solar but will also help to meet the increasing requirements of clients across the public sector for suppliers to be able to demonstrate continuous improvement in environmental performance.

He says: “We’re giving a whole new meaning to the term ‘Solar Windows’ and so far our commercial clients have responded really well to our ongoing determination to make our whole manufacturing process as green as possible.

“Solar Windows already holds ISO14001 accreditation for its environmental management systems and we have a whole range of waste reduction and recycling initiatives in place which have enabled us to half the amount of waste we send to landfill over recent years.

“However, we are not complacent about our performance and we are constantly looking at new ways in which we can improve still further.”
