CAB explores the ‘Specification Journey
25th September 2012

CAB – The Council for Aluminium in Building - has secured two highly passionate speakers to highlight the ‘Specification Journey’ at the final Regional Members’ Meeting of 2012 on 31 October at the Coventry Transport Museum. Ian Harris, Director, Maber Associates and Richard McWilliams, Director – Research, Development and Innovation at Capita Symonds will consider a number of issues not least being why only 20% of specifications actually reach site.

Ian Harris will consider, in a presentation entitled ‘The Specification Journey: from concept to site’, a number of product areas relevant to aluminium in building such as external cladding, curtain walling and ironmongery. He will look at several case studies with a particular focus on education, some exciting product development work with pods and examine the lessons to be learned if you want to be successful in getting your products selected. Ian will also touch on his involvement in the Priority Schools Building Programme.

Richard McWilliams will be looking at ‘what professionals want from their supply chain’ and ‘how can you be someone that others want to work with?’ The aim of both the presentations is to help provide members with as much insight as possible into these hugely important issues at a time when even some of the most optimistic outlooks for the construction sector are ‘flat’.

The venue for the meeting and dinner has a unique collection of over 240 cars, commercial vehicles and buses, 94 motorcycles, 200 cycles and 25,000 models which are designated’ as being ‘of national importance’. If you are interested in following the event or contributing with questions for the speakers on Twitter, the hashtag is #CABSpecEvent.
