Back to school

Reynaers aluminium systems have played a key role in the construction of a new school at Monkton Heathfield, Taunton, on behalf of Somerset County Council.

The design and build project was won in competition by architects Boon Brown of Yeovil and Exeter based contractors, Dean & Dyball. Replacing former prefabricated classrooms the completed development provides 12 new standalone classrooms, all with associated staff rooms and support facilities, plus a substantial and impressive entrance foyer which combines an exhibition space.

The contemporary light and airy design of the building uses Reynaers Vision 50 insulated profiles at ground floor level coupled with Reynaers windows and door systems throughout.

In a subsequent extension to the school to create a new science lab, Boon Brown worked in conjunction with contractors, Rok of Taunton and fabricators Total Aluminium Systems of Taunton. Once again Vision 50 profiles were used, along with Reynaers Eco system windows and doors, which are specifically designed to combine aesthetics with energy efficiency. With a U-value as low as 1.2 W/m2K (depending on the application), the system meets the latest thermal insulation requirements.

Paul Duffy, Reynaers’ UK head of sales, said: “The variety of Reynaers products used in the construction of this striking school building illustrates how highly suitable our systems are for use in Building Schools for the Future projects.

“Not only do they offer excellent thermal insulation and superior wind and water tightness, but they are aesthetically pleasing, durable and, in the case of Eco system, can be easily installed in minimal time, a key consideration with educational projects.”
