In shape for the future

North Western Lead Co has recently invested more than £60,000 on improvements to machinery at its fully owned premises near Manchester.

In a bid to further minimise waste and improve customer satisfaction, NWL has introduced state-of-the art digital length measurement. This advance in cutting lead ensures that no reel of lead leaves the factory at less than the stipulated length.

The company has also enhanced the ovens on its coating lines. This has improved their efficiency and minimised the risk of coating defects. Developments in controlling the colour of the coating have helped to minimise batch to batch colour variation. This makes it much easier to match up lead to previous work. Customers have welcomed these benefits, which along with better edges on the lead, makes applying lead even easier than before.

Stephen Hart, NWL’s managing director, said: “With more than 60 years in business, North Western Lead Co (NWL) has seen a few economic downturns. The major improvements that we have made recently have placed us at the very forefront of lead production and we are confident that they will help to give us and our customers a distinct advantage to trade successfully through these challenging times. We are a strong and stable company and these recent developments, supported by the unique skills of our loyal workforce, are testimony to the ethos of the business.”
