Family firm invests £5million in major growth plane
24th March 2015

Westcountry Glass, part of the Cornwall Glass Group, has announced a £5million expansion plan that will quadruple its factory size and create 30 new jobs.

The move, from Saltash to Plymouth, will give the family-run sealed unit manufacturer over 40,000sqft to keep ahead of demand for its double and triple glazed units throughout the South West and enable delivery routes to grow extensively along the M5 and M4 corridors.

Westcountry’s glass manufacturing and processing capabilities will be substantially increased, with a large investment into state-of-the-art machinery and technology, including a new toughening plant that will have the ability to toughen glass up to 2800mm x 4200mm in size and 4-19mm in thickness.

The new sealed unit line will produce over-sized double and triple glazed units up to 4000mm x 2700mm. It is also intended to add a CNC processor to the factory as well, which will extend Westcountry Glass’ processing capabilities, including shaped glass that can also be drilled and etched.

Company Director Mark Norcliffe said of the plan: “This significant investment in the Cornwall Glass Group at Westcountry Glass will enable us to provide our own branch network, existing customers and new customers with a full range of high performance and much larger product offerings along with new single toughened processed glass products which we have not been able to produce before. We are all very excited and looking forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead.”
