The former Colgate Palmolive factory in Salford has been transformed with an outer façade of screen walling based on the ALUPROF MB-SR50N system.
Using the existing external frame concrete structure, the aluminium curtain wall screens were used to create a continuous glazed and aluminium panelled facade behind the concrete columns. On the existing four storey block a further storey was added which perfectly follows the lines of the curtain wall below, giving the impression that the concrete frame surrounds an existing aluminium glazed structure.
The Aluprof aluminium systems were installed by Humberside-based Commercial Systems International Ltd which has been successfully installing glazing and cladding systems for over 20 years.
The Ivy Wharf Development provides a total of 40,000m2 of grade A office space with units starting at 200m2. The site also has planning permission for a further 200-bed hotel, a retail area and residential, as well as further office space. Designed by Architects shedkm and constructed by Galliford Try, the building is already being occupied by local businesses.
A sustainable and low carbon redevelopment, the project has been awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The office accommodation, when completed, was the largest speculative office scheme to be completed outside of London.
