Vertical Slider manufacturer Quickslide has turned its attention to the company’s glass plant in its continuing quest for efficiency and product and service perfection. In an investment of more than £50,000 the latest phase of development has included the installation of automated gas filling equipment and a new Superspacer line. The company has also reorganised the layout of the IGU plant to optimise efficiency, resulting in a 12% reduction in man-hours for the same output and a 3% reduction in material waste.
The company’s glass unit output has also been simplified with just two high efficiency product specifications: The company’s ‘standard’ IGU specification is to a ‘B’ Window Energy Rating when installed in Quickslide’s VS frames, whilst ‘A’ rated units are available for a nominal additional cost. When installed in Quickslide’s VS windows the latter offer the most energy efficient PVC-U vertical sliding frames available in the UK, achieving ‘A+8’.
“With the glass plant and the other services that we maintain in house such as applying our own foiling, we are able to control and continuously improve every aspect of our production,” explained Adrian Barraclough, Quickslide Chairman. “The improvements we make provide stability in pricing and allow us to maintain and improve our service to customers, which is especially important in tough trading conditions. We provide stable prices and a service our customers can depend upon which in turn they may pass on. We do this by doing things better, not by making cuts.”
