Total transformation
24th January 2012
Black Millwork provided more than 50 windows and doors, as well as feature windows for the front and back, of a 1970s bungalow in Derby that was transformed into an eight-bedroomd home.
Random House is located in Hazelwood that open out over the Derbyshire countryside. The property extends to approximately 8,000ft2.
“It was imperative the windows and doors were of the highest specification, reflecting the quality and elegant character of the property and complementing its surroundings,” Gary Lodge at Bellbrooke Developments said. “We spent a long time sourcing and planning the materials and finally settled on Black Millwork due to its exceptionally high quality and service.”
Black Millwork provided a tall feature window by the stairs at the front of the house to attract light in to the house, and one at the back. The company custom made six large frames to form a triangular shape to give a unique stamp and a feeling of exclusivity.
Black Millwork was involved in the design for the two striking window features, giving advice and support for wind load, as the location suffers from strong wind, and also for structural support, in terms of the steel joists needed to hold the considerable weight of glass.
Bellbrook Contractors also specified approximately 30 Andersen 400 series Woodwright Sliding Sash windows for the build, all with slender profiles and glazing bars. The elegant, small profiles give a less obtrusive view, allowing for more light and the illusion of a large, seamless outlook. The neat styling and numerous grille pattern options are a fundamental feature of the windows to blend in or enhance any period of building.
In addition, a selection of Andersen 400 Series Casement Windows, Andersen 400 Series French Doors, Andersen Flexiframe, Black Millwork Folding Sliding Door aluminium finish and Black Millwork Fixed Casement windows were installed, all designed to comfortably complement the other, even when fitted side by side.
All of the windows and doors possess excellent energy performance levels and low maintenance costs. They feature Perma-shield, which protects the exterior of a window for decades, eliminating the need to paint, resulting in significant financial savings. Other key features such as High-Performance Low-E4 self-cleaning glass, with optimum UV filtration and noise reduction, were also an important benefit for the property.
