Jumpers for goalposts?

With the World Cup serving as a convenient warm-up, at last we can look forward to a proper football competition. The Double Glazing Industry 5-a-Side Competition, organised by Conservatory Outlet’s Matthew Glover, will feature 32 teams in a tournament that is likely to make the gladiatorial contest at the Coliseum seem like a walk in the park.

For what better way to battle your opponents than on a football field, where sweat and glory can lay testimony to your company’s superiority in extruding frames or hardware, or fitting windows.

This is the one the industry has been waiting for, said Matthew: “These are tough times for the double glazing industry so we need something to prepare for as the summer fizzles to a damp and disappointing end. The Double Glazing Industry 5-a-Side Competition is open to anyone that wants to put a team in, from any part of the industry whether you make or sell extrusions or components, you’re a window fabricator or installer or anything to do with the trade. It’s on a first-come-first-served basis and the 32 places are being snapped up fast.

“The event will be decided in a day of competition with each team playing a minimum of three games in the World Cup format. Teams will be made up of 5 players and 2 substitutes so even the smallest firms can send a team in. Of the £350 plus VAT entry fee, at least £150 will go to charity, so a lot of good will come out of what should be a tremendous event. Come on, show the industry just how good you are!”

To be held on Saturday 30th October from 2pm, the event will be organised by Powerleague and held at the Salford Stadium, Lichfield Road, Aston, Birmingham B6 7TG.
