'Environmental Innovation' win for Veka

VEKA UK Group has been named as a winner in The Lancashire Business Environment Awards 2012, with a trophy for 'Environmental Innovation' presented at Blackburn's Ewood Park on October 18th.

Now in their 16th year, the Lancashire Business Environment Awards - organised by Groundwork Pennine Lancashire - showcase the most innovative and effective environmental sustainability initiatives by Lancashire businesses.
Colin Torley, VEKA's Sales and Marketing Director explains: “The VEKA UK Group has become known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to environmental issues. We were delighted to win this award for our entry based on two well-received products: the Halo SmartSash window system and the Bowater Architectural System 10 Aluminium offering.

“SmartSash is a window that can achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 6 and a U Value of 0.7. The beauty of this window is that it offers a cost-effective way to improve the U Value without replacing the window: it can actually be upgraded from double glazing to triple glazing without having to remove the frame. Installing the SmartSash window system in a property could save up to 1.17 tonnes of carbon per annum.

“The System 10 Aluminium product is a window system with a thermally-efficient PVC-U core and an aluminium outer, offering the style and sightlines often favoured by architects and specifiers, coupled with the outstanding thermal properties of PVC-U.

“The VEKA UK Group is proud to lead the way in environmental initiatives when it comes to PVC-U systems. VEKA plc was the first company in the UK to create an 'A' rated window and the first PVC-U systems company to establish a closed-loop recycling facility.
