Homeowners say no to ‘tacky plastic’ – but Bygone wins them round

North London homeowner Paula Miller had a dilemma: she’d just been told she’d won a prize of new sash windows, but she knew her husband objected to ‘tacky plastic double glazing’. The couple won a set of Bygone sashes in a recent competition run by national home improvement magazine, Your Home, worth £6,000. But proud of their recently purchased property and its period features, Steve Miller was concerned that dodgy double-glazing (and dodge-it-and-scarper fitters) would devalue his home. After seeing the Masterframe-made sashes in the showroom of local installer, Barnet Window Company, he changed his opinion completely.

“My wife persuaded me to see a sample,” says Steve Miller, “after visiting the showroom without my knowledge! To my surprise, the sample sash didn’t look cheap and shiny as I expected – you couldn’t tell it was plastic. It was extremely well-engineered and heavy, clearly a quality product. What’s more, it looked exactly the same as the timber sashes we already had in the home. A further surprise was the salesman - informative and polite; not at all pushy.”

Barnet Window Company subsequently installed four Bygone sashes for Mr and Mrs Miller, who then wrote to the installer and Masterframe to say how delighted they were: “We have been working our way through a long list of ‘projects’…still on the list was the kids’ bathroom window (which was rotten) and improvements to the ground floor security. We looked at other double glazing (ugly and not in keeping) and even security gates (worse) but could not find a satisfactory solution. [The] competition was perfectly timed for us and we could not believe it when we won!

“Barnet Window Company was always helpful and efficient and the finished job is of a high quality.”

Masterframe’s Managing Director, Alan Burgess, adds: “Mr Miller is not alone. Many in the consumer media also equate PVC with tacky, white shiny plastic. But the Bygone Collection changes perceptions – it’s in a completely different league to other sashes on the market.”
