UV bonding knowledge sharing

Bohle is offering to share its knowledge regarding UV Bonding glass-to-glass and glass to other materials.

Bohle MD Dave Broxton explained: “There are a lot of myths associated with the theory and process of bonding glass with UV adhesives but so long as you know what you are doing, UV bonding glass to most materials is a simple process and adds extraordinary value and potential profit to glass.

“As leaders in the field, we possess the knowledge and expertise to demystify the process. We are offering to share our experience with our existing UV technology customers and other potential users, either at their premises or in our Manchester training facility, all free of charge.”

Bohle supplies UV glass bonding equipment, adhesives, tools and hardware offering practically unlimited design possibilities, extremely high bonding strengths, very short processing times and low start up costs.

One particular UV bonding product, unique to Bohle and essential to efficient, high strength bonding applications, is Pyrosil surface pre-treatment technology. The load-bearing capacity of any UV bond is measured by its tensile strength. This indicates at which level of force the bond fails and optimal structural integrity is achieved when the greatest possible adhesion of the adhesive is attained.

To ensure that bonds of problematic surfaces stay securely and durably bonded, a surface pre-treatment is essential. With the Bohle Pyrosil technology, a silicate sinter layer is brought onto the bonding surfaces with the help of a flame burner. In a second step, a coupling agent is applied, which reacts with the silicate sinter layer and subsequently forms a permanent chemical bond with the adhesive when bonding. The pre-treated bond is then durably protected against moisture infiltration.

Dave concluded: “The safety of the user and the reputation of the glass processor depend upon achieving a perfect bond every time and at Bohle we are committed to advancing and sharing our UV bonding expertise and technology with the industry.”
