Commercial Project finalist
20th September 2016

Saint-Gobain Glass has been named as a finalist in the prestigious G16 Awards.

The shortlisting in the Commercial Project of the Year category recognises the pivotal role Saint-Gobain Glass’ technical knowledge and advanced product range played in the success of the revolutionary, multifaceted glazed Factory 2050.

The UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative aerospace research, Factory 2050 is one of the most advanced factories in the world.

The 7000sqm circular building is constructed largely from high performance glazing to showcase the advanced manufacturing technologies inside the Sheffield Business Park facility. The completed glazing perfectly complements the building’s design and helps to achieve the architect’s intended vision to maximise natural light and create comfortable interior environments whilst retaining neutral aesthetics. Saint-Gobain Glass helped to deliver the ideal glazing solution with the use of SGG COOL-LITE® SKN 165 II, which was specified on the project due to the glass facade requiring a very specific combination of low solar heat gain and high light transmission.

Helping to create a multi-comfort solution, the finished glazing creates light, comfortable interior spaces resulting in an enhanced office space in which people can work comfortably and productively.

Saint-Gobain Glass Marketing Manager Adrian Adams said: “It was an honour to help create one of the most advanced factories in the world – one that is setting new standards and driving innovation for future factory design projects. As a business we constantly strive to innovate and deliver glass products and solutions to make living and work spaces more comfortable. Factory 2050 is a great example of this in practice.”
