Breathing new life

Social housing fenestration contractor Asset Fineline is working with Lovell Partnerships on a project in Colchester which is breathing new life into a former MoD site to deliver affordable new homes.

The company is installing high performance Sheerframe windows and doors into refurbishment and new-build rental properties as part of the housing development scheme.

Funded by the HCA and Colchester BC, the Oakapple Close development includes 83 properties which will be totally renovated for Iceni Homes by Lovell, plus the creation of 61 new-build properties. Once completed, the homes will be made available to local people in housing need through Colchester Council's Choice-based Lettings Scheme.

The development is the largest scheme ever undertaken by Colne Housing Society, delivering 144 affordable houses and bungalows at a cost of £19.5 million.  In addition to new windows and doors, improvements to the refurbished properties include the installation of new kitchens, bathrooms and central heating systems, as well as plumbing and electrical work.  Homes are also being re-roofed and extensions are being built or earmarked at 78 of the properties.

Sheerframe windows and doors fabricated and installed by Asset Fineline to make the homes warmer and more energy-efficient.

Darren Sowter, sales and estimating Manager said: "We are proud to be working with Lovell and their partners on this prestigious scheme, which is improving the present housing stock immensely both in terms of future savings on fuel bills for residents and the visual appeal.”
