Recycling stability

PVC Recycling has reported stability returning to the marketplace with activity back up to pre-recession levels.

Greater demand for its products has led the Manchester-based company, which concentrates on recycling end-of-life PVC-U window and door frames diverted from landfill, to reinstate immediate competitive payment on the weighbridge for feedstock.

PVC Recycling accepts post-consumer deglazed window and door frames at its 60,000ft2 site from waste transfer stations, skip hire companies and other waste management businesses.

Recent £280,000 investment in a state-of-the-art shredder specifically designed for processing PVC and taking on a further four staff are further indications of an upturn in the market, which can recycle the lowest quality and even the most heavily-contaminated PVC-U frames that no one else wants.

Directors Ian and Joanne Murray attribute rising orders from existing UK customers, as well as from Russia and Europe, to a return to production levels last seen in 2007/08.

“We want to allay fears of customers who may have been let down by less professional companies going bankrupt after offering to pay inflated prices for PVC feedstock,” Ian said. “That’s why we’re making direct payment immediately for all material delivered to us on the weighbridge in an effort to instill greater confidence in the marketplace.

“The introduction of double shifts to turn waste PVC into high quality recyclate is further evidence of market confidence and stabilising conditions, which is reassuring for us and our customers.”

PVC Recycling’s innovative processing methods produce a material – chip or melt-filtrated pellet – that is suitable for manufacturing back into everyday products, from equestrian fencing to new PVC windows, plastic building products and fascias.

Products made from 100% recycled PVC perform exactly the same as those made from virgin material. The carbon footprint of recycling end-of-life PVC products is 94% less than producing the prime equivalent.
