Green workshops

In preparation for the introduction of the Government’s Green Deal in 2012, businesses in the renewable energy and building sectors are being invited to a range of free workshops and events run by Nottingham Trent University’s sustainable design project, Future Factory.

Future Factory has teamed up with a variety of organisations to ensure that those in the sector know how to take advantage of the opportunities which could be created through Green Deal and the growing renewable energy market.

In conjunction with the Sustainable Construction iNet, Future Factory will be helping to deliver an event for businesses who wish to gain work ‘retrofitting’ properties with energy efficiency measures, a key part of the Green Deal programme.

The full day event, at Whittlebury Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire, will be held on Thursday 22 September. It will highlight case studies of previous retrofitting schemes and explore key opportunities for the future.

Future Factory has also joined up with renewable energy consultancy, EnvirUp, to host an information and networking event for installers of photovoltaic panels, of which there are now 3000 accredited in the UK.

Of interest to any business in the sector, from sole traders to larger organisations, the first event will be held at Northampton Guildhall on Tuesday 20 September and the second will be on Thursday 29 September at De Montfort University Leicester.

EnvirUP commercial director, Assim Ishaque, said: “We ran a similar event earlier in the year and more than 60 installers came along to share information. It’s important we work together to strengthen the industry overall.”

Future Factory project manager, Debra Easter, said: “A national focus on improving the energy efficiency of our houses will create a variety of opportunities for business in the sector.  It’s imperative that they are prepared to take full advantage of this.”
