Green Deal warning

Following a recent explosion of misinformation appearing in print and online about the Government’s Green Deal initiative, the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and its sister company Fensa have issued a joint statement warning members, companies and consumers not to be persuaded into committing to any bogus schemes, websites, conferences or agreements until all the facts are revealed by the Government in 2012.

GGF and Fensa Statement:

“The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and Fensa are seriously concerned at the number of companies and organisations using the Green Deal term and concept in an attempt to lever glass and glazing businesses and homeowners into buying products and services – much of which is based on little more than speculation and supposition. This misinformation could potentially cost businesses and consumers a lot of time and money once the full facts are made available in 2012.

“The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has been in constant discussion with GGF and Fensa since the outset of the Green Deal plan in 2010 and the GGF/Fensa are now at the cutting edge of Green Deal developments for the glass and glazing industry, in terms of the financial, political and technical implications.

“According to DECC, the full facts on Green Deal will be known in Spring 2012 after the Secondary Legislation is passed in Parliament. Until then it is impossible for anyone to pre-suppose how it will actually work in practice and of the scheme’s true and full impact on the glass and glazing industry and homeowners wanting to install energy efficient windows.

“Given that the full information on Green Deal has not yet been released, the GGF and Fensa advise all members, registered businesses and consumers to wait until all the information is available rather than potentially waste time and money on what might happen, rather than what will happen when Green Deal is launched in October 2012.

“The GGF and Fensa will continue in ongoing dialogue with the Government and be actively involved on all glass and glazing matters relating to the Green Deal and Energy Efficiency  including a pilot scheme, right up until its launch – October 2012.”
