Fire doorsets from Sidey have upgraded a 1960s tower block in South London to 21st century standards of fire protection and security.

Wayland House, a 15 storey block of flats in the inner city area of Stockwell, was fitted with the doorsets. Not only did the 86 doorsets meet the requirements of FD30, but they also gave Wayland House a facelift as they were supplied with a stained and lacquered light oak finish, complemented by chrome hardware. Further safety was provided with high security locking that met both PAS23 and 24, the standards demanded by Secured by Design, the crime prevention initiative developed in the UK by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

The Sidey Fire doorset will not warp, twist, bow or dent and is secure and durable with superb heat insulation. Ideal for social housing, it is low maintenance and energy efficient. The outer frames consist of 70mm x 50mm treated hardwood, and coated with intumescent paint over one layer of undercoat.

The doors are also equipped with a Q-Lon weatherseal that not only reduces the risk of fire by limiting oxygen availability but also complies with both Building Regulations and the Code for Sustainable Homes by improving thermal efficiency and air tightness.

The doorsets also feature a fire resistant viewer, a fire resistant letter plate, and concealed closer.

Manufactured in Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) at Sidey’s Perth factory, with a hardwood timber frame from a renewable source, the fire doors are supplied from stock with white inner and outer faces – although the leaves can be supplied in a huge range of painted colours if required.
