Skybridge
20th November 2018

Telford Homes has chosen and installed SAPA aluminium curtain walling for its new skybridge between two office buildings totalling 36,000 sq ft on a business park in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.

Telford Homes, Design Director, David Durant explained: “A big part of our company’s approach is to make all staff and departments feel equally appreciated. We were concerned that without the bridge link the people in the smaller building may feel remote from the day-to-day operations.”

The challenge for RMA Architects was to join the two buildings where the link couldn’t be constructed at ground level.

Telford Homes uses Sapa curtain wall, doors and windows for many of its residential-led, mixed-use sites across London.

To create the solar controlled glazed walkway, Sapa’s E52 aluminium curtain walling system was specified and, for added design synchronicity, the grey mullions were angled, instead of being positioned vertically or horizontally, to suite with the direction of the supporting frame. To achieve this, drainage had to be considered carefully as did the size and shape of the glass panes, with wider pieces of glass required to accommodate the angled mullions.
