More conservatory companies, but fewer fabricators
According to Windowbase, the overall number of conservatory firms has risen compared to 2004, with 500 more conservatory companies overall.
Windowbase currently has details of 11,536 firms that fabricate or install conservatories in the UK. Of these 3,969 fabricate, 10,667 install and there are 7,567 companies that install but do not fabricate. However, in the last five years the mix of fabricators and installers has changed considerably, with almost 700 fewer conservatory fabricators (-15%) but over 800 more installers (+8%) compared to 2004.
“It’s been a tough year for conservatory companies,” says Neil Parsonson, general manager of Windowbase, “but the market still has plenty of potential. Consumers are spending, they’re just spending more wisely. Firms are adapting by buying-in rather than fabricating, or upselling with added-value products such as blinds and underfloor heating.
