Slip-free decking
A new school development in Wiltshire has incorporated John Brash’s JB Antislip Plus decking to create a sustainable and safe walkway.
St John’s School in Marlborough is a flagship educational project with environmental issues as its central theme. Eco-friendly features include a large sedum roof, thermal storage technology to reduce dependence on heating and extensive use of timber.
John Brash’s JB Antislip Plus timber decking therefore helped contribute to the sustainability of the school because a typical tree absorbs, through photosynthesis, the equivalent of 1 tonne of carbon dioxide for every cubic metre’s growth, while producing the equivalent of 0.7 tonne of oxygen.
Safety was also a paramount concern for the school, and two grey coloured JB Antislip Plus inserts were fitted into each timber deck board to provide a durable and effective external antislip surface that minimises any risk of slipping.
JJ Carpentry installed the JB Antislip Plus decking, which has been used to create inter-connecting external walkways between four teaching blocks. The architect, Re-Format, specified the decking, which was made from John Brash’s kiln dried European Redwood.
“The decking from John Brash will provide the school with a long lasting, durable and safe walkway,” said Gary Johns, Director at JJ Carpentry. “This is a really eye-catching project and we are delighted that the decking adds to its overall aesthetic appeal as well as providing high levels of sustainability.”
