Fitrite against the recession

Lakeland Verandahs has turned over £250,000 in the first quarter of its second year of operation despite the recession, thanks in large part to the success of Fitrite PVC-U decking and fencing from Sash UK.

In June 2008, Russell Milburn set up a new business just as the credit crunch was having a devastating effect on the economy and the recession was looming. However, Russell shunned his window installer trade after listening to advice given by the team at Sash UK, and was persuaded instead to set up a decking and verandah company.

“Considering we are supposed to be in a recession, and I have tripled my turnover by the first quarter of the second year, I’m ecstatic,” Russell exclaimed. “Taking the risk has certainly paid off!”

Greg Kane, Sash UK’s sales director, who gave Russell the timely advice, explained that decking has become a hit of 2009. “There are always some businesses that do well in a recession,” Greg said, “and this year decking companies have seen their fortunes grow.

“We know from supplying Fitrite decking to our registered installers, that there has been money going into UK-based caravan parks. More people have been holidaying in the UK, and retired people – whose income hasn’t been affected by the downturn – have been investing in static caravans, which includes the decking.”

Fitrite can be used in place of traditional wooden decking. But, unlike wood, Fitrite is completely waterproof and low maintenance. It doesn’t deteriorate or rot over time, nor does it shrink, warp or crack. With only very light cleaning, it maintains an attractive appearance and is resistant to heat, making it pleasurable to walk on in the summer. Furthermore, it is 100% recyclable and doesn’t contain toxic chemicals.
