MP applauds energy efforts

Chloe Smith, MP for Norwich North, applauded Anglian Home Improvement'’ efforts in helping its customers save energy, during a recent tour of the factory near Norwich.

Miss Smith saw Anglian Home Improvements' glass shop to understand more about the manufacturing techniques that create B rated, thermally efficient windows, which are produced as standard across all Anglian Home Improvement products.  Anglian Home Improvements is also offering its own £2,000 windows scrappage scheme to kickstart UK households into replacing old windows with energy efficient versions, in order to help reach the Government's CO2 reduction target.

She said: "It’s good to see a prominent local business leading the way in trying to help homes locally and across the UK become more energy efficient.  Personally, I am keen to find ways to improve my own energy use – I have signed up, for example, to the 10:10 campaign - and I know many others are looking for the same."

Chloe Smith met Peter Mottershead, group chief executive of Anglian Home Improvements, who also pressed the need for a reduction in VAT from 15% to 5% for professionally installed energy efficient window products.

Mr Mottershead said: "It seems unfair for homeowners to receive a reduced VAT rate of 5% on roof insulation and yet when it comes to windows, the consumer has to pay the full VAT rate which will increase to 17.5% in January. We would like the government to reduce VAT on professionally installed energy efficient windows to increase the likelihood of UK homeowners living in more energy efficient homes."
