ASA moves in on phoney solar grant sites

The ASA has ordered two website operators to withdraw adverts after investigators found both were running covert lead generating operations in the guise of offering funding for home solar installations – in one case using the word ‘Government’ in its title.

The rulings follow recent investigations against similar sites claiming to offer scrappage and other subsidies on new windows, many linked to the now-defunct Clearwin Ltd, owner of Zenith, Weatherseal and other Kairos Group retail brands read story.

The recent ASA action was against Rock Paper Click ltd t/a ‘Government Solar Checker’ and Solar Panel Funding Ltd, both of which claimed that funds were available for installations but were discovered by the Authority to be primarily lead generating businesses.

Upholding complaints against both, the ASA concluded that both were misleading and were acting for purposes outside their trade or business and ordered that both must remove the ads in the form complained of and must not make such misleading claims in future advertising.
