Test rig
Build Check only launched its Schulten weather testing rig for windows and doors last year, but according to technical director Richard Bate, the new facilities have gone down a storm with fabricators and installers. “Our UKAS accredited testing service is capable of testing to BS EN 1026 (Air permeability), BS EN 1027 (Watertightness) and BS EN 12211 (Resistance to wind load). We have certainly been kept busy by window companies since it was installed last year” says Richard. There are several simulation programmes available to help companies determine theoretical performance for U-Values and WERs, but the test rig adds a new dimension for physical testing. “We are often asked by window manufacturers to test out new hardware or gaskets, purely to give an independent verification on how they resist air and water ingress” adds Richard. Physical test methods are applicable for CE Marking which, although currently voluntary, is highly likely to impact the Building Regulations in the near future. As Richard said: “We are already prepared to help forward thinking companies future proof their businesses by offering a full range of simulations and actual testing facilities for both British and European standards and can help our companies to navigate safely through the maze of product certification and accreditations.” 01494 452713 Picture: Richard Bate and Build Check’s weather test rig
