High over the Tyne

Dominating the skyline over the Tyne is a new mixed development completed with Senior Architectural Systems.

The new 15 storey ‘Forth Banks’ building sits on the north side of the Tyne and is very close to the East Coast Railway line and the Metro both of which run over the Tyne at this point. The close proximity of the Metro railway line required the facetted glazed facade to be soundproofed to meet stringent requirements from the developer, ‘Mandale Developments’.

Skipton Glass, the installer, worked closely with Senior’s to detail two products to meet the sound attenuation specification.

The double glazed external aluminium curtain wall was constructed from Senior’s SCW series, which was backed up with the SPW 600 window system, between each floor, to form a secondary glazed area. The twin facade arrangement was designed to be very effective to reduce both traffic and train noise.

The specified arrangement is used to particular stunning effect on the south east elevation, this being a facetted facade running up the full height of the building just metres away from the North buttress of the Metro railway bridge over the Tyne.

To meet the demands of the specifier for high performance facade systems, all four of Senior’s curtain wall systems have been tested to CWCT standards and all carry the necessary performance requirements.
