Phoenix pulls out of door panels
– ‘comp doors are the future’
17th October 2017

Phoenix Doors is to cease production of PVC-U door panels next month in the light of ‘challenging’ sales that have seen production drop from 1,500 panels a week to 800 or less in recent times.

The company is now focussing its efforts and production capacity at its 50,000sqft Huntingdon site on GRP composite doors, including its Meridian and newly launched Sovereign range, and has directly recommended all its panel customers to Hurst Plastics.

Sales Director Haydon Statham (pictured) said in a statement today: “Losing panel manufacture will free up the space, time and manpower in our bigger factory to concentrate on rising demand for our composite doors, which we introduced in 2008.

Since then, composite door sales have continued to go up and they are our future.

“Phoenix was started and built up on manufacturing panels. Subsequently entering the composite door market in 2008 has taken the company to where it is today.

“We see composite doors as a growing part of the market for the next three to five years. Our composite door sales continue to grow rapidly with existing and new customers selling more and there are still markets that we can tap into. It’s onward and upward for Phoenix!”

The company has written to its fabricator and installer customers telling them of the decision and endorsing Hurst Plastics’ Definitive range as alternative source.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the company is announcing that Neil Peck, who founded Phoenix Door Panels in 1993, is to leave the company at the end of this week.

Phoenix Doors was founded as Phoenix Door Panels Ltd by Neil in 1993. Composite doors were added to the range at the end of 2008. The company was acquired by Masco UK Window Group in 2013.
