New thermoplastic hood cuts the noise
17th March 2015

Emmegi has introduced a new noise-reducing thermoplastic hood as an option on its Comet T6, T5 and T4 machines and on the Phantomatic T3A, T3S and T3Star machining centres.

A new thermoplastic acoustic hood is now available.
The new hood is available as an alternative to existing the steel hood and also offers considerable benefits in terms of cost, performance and practicality. It is made from 5mm lightweight and shockproof opaline methacrylate which is durable enough to withstand the rigours of the factory environment but light enough to be easily assembled by just one person.

Frequently used for lighting diffusers, the scratch resistant material provides a light, airy and virtually transparent machine cover. It also eliminates the need for additional sound absorbing panels.

The first company to put the new acoustic hood to the test, on a Comet machining centre, is Gloucestershire based Customade Group, which is using the machine for the manufacture of its precision Fineline Aluminium and Atlas Glazed Roof Solutions products.

Group Operations Director Nick Gibbons said: “As one of the leading Smart Aluminium fabricators, we pride ourselves on fabricating high quality products which require consistent performance of the machines. We use an Emmegi Comet and a Phantomatic CNC machine in our main factory to achieve the highest performance.

“With the significant growth of Customade, and the introduction of Atlas’ latest innovative aluminium roof product, the Skyroom, the Comet was an obvious choice for an additional CNC machine to replace the copy router used in our other factory.

“We have noticed already that the new acoustic hood makes the machine noticeably quieter for our workforce and helps towards creating a better working environment.”
