Major project coup
17th July 2012

Clearway Doors & Windows Ltd recently supplied and installed the entire curtain walling for the new £30 million Kanes Foods’ factory, which has been dubbed one of the UK’s greenest buildings.

In July 2012 the ribbon was officially cut to open the new development by TV presenter James Wong, who ceremoniously laid the final piece of turf on the building’s roof and gave a speech to over 150 attendees, including national and local press.

Cheltenham based Clearway Doors & Windows, manufactured and supplied state-of-the-art curtain walling for the development, which spans an impressive 11,000 square metres.

Clearway Doors & Windows Director Shane Stevens comments on the project: “The new Kanes factory is a landmark building in every sense. Clearway’s expertise and experience has been clearly demonstrated by our manufacture and installation of the curtain walling for such an impressive building.

“The finished article is a factory that really is setting a new standard in environmental credentials and it speaks volumes for Clearway that we were chosen to be involved in such a state-of-the-art and high-profile project.”

As well as manufacturing and installing all glazing on the façade, Clearway Doors and Windows also installed all of the aluminium doors and windows on the building.

Regarding the finer details of building itself, the East elevation of the curtain walling was 47 metres long by 5.1 metres high and the north elevation was 20 metres long by 5.1 metres high; with the faceted stairway 10.5 metres in circumference and 12.3 metres tall.

Clearway Doors and Windows used Sapa Elegance 52 HL curtain walling glazed with Interpane Ipasol solar control glass, which was fully laminated to minimise the chance of broken glass getting into the food chain.

The factory took three years to build and features a raft of eco-friendly initiatives. The Green Roof, thought to be the largest bio-diverse wildflower grass roof in the UK, is planted with nearly 90 species of wild flower and has attracted much media attention appearing on the BBC news and BBC website amongst others.
