Triathalon team get set for gruelling challenge
17th July 2012

A trio of Kestrel managers hope to reach new heights of athletic achievement at this year’s Virgin Active London Triathalon.
While the world is glued to the London Olympics, Simon Reynolds, Laurence Hicks and Mike Payne face a gruelling summer of training getting ready for the event.  As part of the Roofing Racers team, they hope to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond St Hospital.

The three, who all took part in last year’s triathalon, plan to improve upon their 2011 times. In particular Kestrel’s business development manager for the North West, Mike Payne, who made the course all the longer and more arduous by mistakenly going around the cycle stage twice.

Kestrel divisional sales manager, north & Ireland, Laurence Hicks said: “I had to wait two and a half hours for Mike to get in. Sadly there was no extra prize or sponsorship for doing anything twice!”

Last year the Roofing Racers team made a combined total of £80,000 for charity and the idea of topping this impressive total has spurred Kestrel sales and marketing director Simon Reynolds to take part again, despite his initial reluctance.

Simon said: “After last year’s event I vowed ‘never again’. I may be a glutton for punishment, but these are such important charities that for better or worse I’ll be there again on September 22.”

The Virgin Active London Triathalon will take place on 22nd and 23rd September. Over the two days, Simon, Mike and Laurence will run in Canary Wharf, swim at London’s Docklands and cycle past Big Ben.
