Further signs of house sales slowing

The number of houses being sold in the UK fell by 7.3% in the year to November, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.
The figure further reinforces last week’s news that the number of properties coming onto the market had dropped by nearly half Read Story. Neither figures make welcome reading for the retrofit window sector where a house move is seen as one of the biggest catalysts for a household to look to home improvements.
At the same time, UK house prices remained uneventful, rising by 6.7% in the year to November, a slight increase on the previous year, giving an average price of £218,000, up by £14,000, and £2,000 higher than the previous month.
Regionally, the East of England showed the highest annual growth at 10.5%; England as a whole rose by 7.2% to £234,000, Wales 4.1% to £147,000 and Scotland 3.3% to £143,000 while prices in Norther Ireland remained static through the year at £124,000.
