A hat-trick of SBD
16th September 2014

Fabricators can now achieve the requirements set out by Secured by Design with three doors from aluminium systems company, Jack Aluminium.

Its thermally efficient TD68 standard hook lock, anti-panic and Mag Lock doorsets have achieved the PAS 24 security standard and a BM TRADA Q-Mark certification under the Enhanced Security Door Scheme, which complies with the Police initiative to reduce crime by incorporating crime prevention measures at the design stage.

The TD68 suite of three doors incorporates a thermally broken threshold to help achieve a U-value of 1.7 W/m2K, which makes it ideal to specify and install where there are busy, high footfall areas. The anti-panic and mag lock doors are designed as a solution for hospitals, schools, hotels, apartment blocks and a whole range of public sector buildings where lock tampering and forced entry are potential weak points for unauthorised personnel.
All doors were tested were in large sizes; Single doors to 1250 wide and 2350 high and where the double door was tested it was 2400 wide and 2350 high.

Jack Aluminium concentrates on designing cost effective solutions for commercial fabricators to make and sell, so the doors were designed to cut out the extra costs associated with labour intensive processes and wastage.

Sales and marketing director, Jeff Pearson says: “Early on in the business we made the decision to focus on the commercial market. We spoke to customers about some of the main issues they face when specifying products and energy efficiency and security were mentioned time and time again.

“We initially designed the TD68 to be an economical, thermally efficient aluminium door with the lowest U-value possible and it has been extremely successful for customers.

“We continued to listen to customers and responded with the TD68 Pivot Anti-Panic Door which features a unique low threshold and rebate to prevent tampering by means of a wire under or over the door leaf. The TD68 Mag Lock Door was designed next to withstand forced entry on common entrances.

“Investing to test our door suite to PAS 23 and 24 standards enables fabricators to manufacture a range of doors using our technical manual and their own in-house quality procedures as Secured by Design approved products.”
