Let the sunshine in

Contemporary architects AR Design Studio specified AluK’s aluminium building systems for the 4Views residential project in Winchester, which has been shortlisted by the Sunday Times for the British Home Awards 2014. AluK window and door systems were specified to enhance the views over the South Downs hills, whilst providing the homeowners with a long-lasting solution that will keep their home safe.

Overlooking the City of Winchester, this stunning house has been designed to create a positive feel and ambience. Based on the principle that a connection with nature is beneficial to the body, the house provides a space for reflection, offering inspiring views over the city and the beautiful countryside.
For the project AluK BSC94 (Duo Rail) and BSC94 (Triple Track) Sliding Door System, as well as 58BW ST (Duo Rail) Steel Replacement Window System were specified. These have then been used for extensive glazing of walls, roof lights and for the open central garden entrance to allow natural light to flood the upper floor, enhance the feeling of space and ensure natural ventilation and free flow of fresh air.

Laura Locke, architect at AR Design Studio comments: “At 4Views the design aims to maximise the views, by giving each key room a significant outlook across the landscape. Selecting the window systems to frame the views was important to us and to our client. The modern frames with clean lines of the floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and windows reinforced our contemporary design philosophy”.

In addition, inherently strong and long-lasting, aluminium stands up to the challenges of everyday life. AluK’s building systems have been designed to offer customers the highest thermal performance levels, keeping the heat inside the house, reducing energy bills as well as carbon footprint.
The architect continues: “For the entrance door we specified the AluK Sliding Door System. We clad the door with hit and miss timber to offer privacy from the street at the oblique angle, but still bring light into the entrance hall. It was reassuring to know that we could recommend the product because of its functionality whilst not compromising the design.The options available offer a multitude of alternative design solutions.” Furthermore, AluK window and door systems are all tested to PAS24 for enhanced security, and most are certified by Secured by Design scheme where applicable.
