Yale enters Security Month with embarrassing app crash
16th October 2018
Yale has made an inauspicious mark on National Security Month after a glitch in its Smart Living Home security system left many customers complaining of being locked out of their homes.
The company earned national headlines after ‘unforseen issues’ caused many home systems to go down. A spokesperson said "This issue has only affected the Yale Smart Living Home app that controls Yale smart alarms.
“During the time when the app lost functionality customers were still able to arm and disarm their alarms via their keypads and key fobs. At no point has there been a breach in our security, and all alarms have remained completely secure.”
It continued that no one had been caused to be locked in or out of their homes. However, some homeowners went to social media to say they were not able to unlock their doors. The company’s Conexis smart door lock is thought to have been unaffected.
A notice currently on the company’s website says: “We have restored full app functionality to nearly all of our Yale Smart Living Home app customers, however some customers may still be experiencing minor issues with the app. Our team continue to work towards full app functionality for all of our customers. We really appreciate your ongoing patience.”
