Online search at record levels – survey

Homeowners are taking online searches for home improvement to new levels, with many key words showing record interest, according to research by marketing agency Purplex.

The analysis shows ‘Double Glazing’ has bounced back to pre-Covid levels, while terms such as ‘Conservatory’ and ‘Patio Doors’ are at their highest level since 2004. Patio Doors, for example is searched around 22,200 times a month – 8% up on last year and 50% up on 2015.

MD Andrew Scott says homeowners are gaining a new appreciation of their home after lockdown and that has combined with a spell of good weather, but he added the caution:
“It’s important to note that search traffic is not the same as intent to buy, but the market is certainly experiencing impressive volumes of sales leads.

“We don’t know whether this is a ‘flash in the pan’ or whether demand will continue. But as home-working is now set to rocket while long-haul holidays are likely to be postponed this year, the signs are positive.”
