Mini crane entrepreneur Gill Riley, co-founder and MD of the GGR Group, has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours – one of very few women in the industry to receive such an honour.
She is credited with transforming the Group from a small family run business to a £22million global success with range of compact cranes and lifting equipment that are familiar to many in commercial glazing and construction. Founded in 1995 with a £5,000 budget, GGR now employs more than 100 staff at depots in Oldham, Thame and Glasgow.
Gill said: “I am truly honoured and humbled to have been chosen to receive such a prestigious award. It is very exciting to think that the work I have done over the years has had a positive impact on the construction industry as a whole.
“I’m proud that our cranes have helped build and maintain some of the most iconic and prestigious buildings across the UK. We’ve truly gone from strength to strength thanks to a fantastic team and supportive family around me; this is a proud day for the whole of the GGR family.”
