Window frames in city building reclad in stainless steel by Structura UK
More than 1300 window frames at One America Square, London EC3, were expertly over clad in stainless steel by Structura UK Ltd, curtain wall engineering specialists, in a phased, 28-week, £1.2m contract.
The original, stainless steel frames in the 20-year-old office building had visually deteriorated giving a poor impression of the property. Therefore, Catalyst Capital LLP, the owners of the site, decided to over clad all the window frames up to, and including, the sixth floor level, incorporating a ‘bird beak’ architectural feature, to achieve an aesthetically better finish to the lower levels of the 14-storey building.
Structura UK was appointed principal contractor and manufactured and supplied new mirror polished, high grade stainless steel to tight tolerances, and installed and sealed it over the existing cladding on five elevations during a 7-phase programme of work while the building was in occupation.
The building’s main entrance in Crosswall and another entrance in America Square were re-clad by Structura UK, and a major scaffolding operation was organised and managed successfully by the Chessington-based company without any disruption to the function of the property.
Structura worked closely with Cladtech Associates, concept designers for the over cladding works and cladding consultants to Catalyst Capital LLP. The Employers Agent Managers and Quantity Surveyors were E.C.Harris LLP.
