Doorco to start UK manufacture with
all-sysco subframe
14th November 2017

Doorco has revealed plans for a fourth phase of its growth that will see the company begin manufacturing bespoke double-rebated composite doors at its UK factory, perhaps as early as Q1 next year.

Details are still at the development stage but MD Dan Sullivan told The Glazine the doors will be 68-70mm, with GRP skins from its sister company in Korea and a subframe built from a full range of any of the major PVC-U systems.

“This will be Doorco’s biggest investment since we launched our factory in Korea,” he said during a press day at the Macclesfield factory this week.

“As part of that investment, we are putting in rigs to cut and weld all the major PVC systems. This means each fabricator can have a fully bespoke door built to size and using any of their favourite systems to match whatever outerframe they already use. Also, using a made to measure subframe rather than cutting a blank to size will significantly reduce wastage.”

Doorco began 12 years ago, shipping in containers of GRP blanks from Korea direct to large fabricators. Five years later it began distributing small orders and mixed pallets from its warehouse in Macclesfield, then in 2014 expanded into a bigger factory making prepped and finishing doors. More recently, it launched its own in-house paint lines and the company said this week that demand for painted doors has now grown from 18% to 50%.

Dan Sullivan continued: “Now we want to add the extra dimension of a fully bespoke door combining the best of GRP and PVC technologies that will appeal to all PVC fabricators.

“I believe that when we have achieved this, using a 68 or 70mm thickness and all the right components and materials, we could even go on to look at attaining Passive House standards and perhaps other variants such as a flood door.”
