Gearing up for aluminium growth
14th June 2016

Essex fabricator PIONEER TRADING has installed a new Elumatec SBZ122/53 machining centre in response to increasing demand for aluminium doors and windows.

The new 3.8m routing station, which replaces an older Elumatec machine, includes a rotating mechanism integrated into the spindle, allowing adjustment of the rotating angle head to 0°/90°/180° and 270° and for profile to be machined from the front, back and on the end with two different tools. Capable of five-sided machining on profiles up to 7.05m in length, it also features a power torque spindle and automatic clamp positioning designed to save time when profile lengths need to be changed frequently. In addition to the new routing station, Pioneer also invested in the latest eluCad software, which as well as being extremely user friendly, allows the machine to be programmed remotely from the office.

Pioneer’s Group Operations Director, Mike Whitlam, said: “While we welcomed the step up in orders for our aluminium offering, we needed the infrastructure in place to ensure that we could continue to offer our customers the level of service they’re used to, which is why we invested in the SBZ122/53 from Elumatec. It’s given us a greater degree of flexibility and more control over our production, while also allowing us an increase in output of between 50-75%. It can also be used with a bar code scanner, for additional quality control during manufacturing.”
