These stunning twin greenhouses form the centrepiece of the new Bombay Sapphire gin distillery at a former Victorian paper mill in Laverstoke, Hampshire, not only as a visual statement but also to grow the ten tropical and Mediterranean botanicals that give the spirit its distinctive flavour.
The facility has been recognised as the first distillery and first refurbishment to achieve an 'Outstanding' design-stage BREEAM accreditation. The centrepiece of the award winning distillery is the twin greenhouse designed by Thomas Hetherwick. It is made up of two units which extend from the distillery, using recycled air from the distillation process to maintain a warm climate inside. The greenhouses also uses advanced glass technology, including ENDUROSHIELD coating, not only to protect the glass form staining and etching but also to help reduce environmental and monetary costs from ongoing maintenance.
EnduroShield provides a permanent ultra-thin, transparent coating that adheres to the glass surface, providing a reduction of both the frequency and the time spent cleaning.
