Weekly Email News for the Glass, Glazing & Fenestration Industries

Last piece in £2m investment programme
14th July 2015

Float Glass Industries will soon take delivery of a For.El. EM6028 2.8m Automatic Vertical Edge Processing Machine, said to offer a wealth of benefits to the business and its customers.

Historically, with most toughening furnaces, thick and solar glass types were very difficult to toughen without an element of surface imperfections. Key benefits of this acquisition are that, as a result of having a fully processed edge, lower furnace temperatures and shorter cycle times can be used greatly reducing such issues. The processed edge of coated and thick glass also improves the visual appearance when used as outer panes in structurally glazed and bonded systems. It will also enable the edge working of glass for insulated units up to a maximum size of 6000 x 2700mm.

These benefits will also improve productivity and therefore lead times in the company’s Manchester-based plant because cutting and toughening losses will be reduced, as will quality rejections at all stages of the manufacturing process.

FGI Joint Managing Director Dawn Offland said, “The investment in the Vertical Edging Machine completes a £2 million re-investment programme which also included a Glaston FC500– 2800 x 6000 – Tempering Plant, which was the first to be installed in this country and a Busetti 2200 x 3000 Double Edging Line as well as a 7,000 square foot factory extension. We are already seeing the benefits of the new machinery and are looking forward to the benefits that the For.El machine will give us.”
