Saint-Gobain Glass UK’s engineers have designed a special glass rig to show the skills of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in a special programme being aired extensively on Sky Sports.
The documentary shows what makes Ronaldo one of the best footballers of his generation by taking an in-depth look at the skills and strength that set him apart. The programme explores the concepts of mental and physical strength through a series of intensive tests, one of which was created with the assistance of SGG UK’s engineers.
SGG UK was approached by a production company who knew of their involvement with the BBC’s Richard Hammond’s Engineering Connections programme. They asked if the glassmaker could design, test and supply a glass demo rig that would show the power of Ronaldo’s 80mph strike to dramatic effect. The SGG UK Engineering team came up with a solution that provided the ‘ultimate test’ of how many sheets he could break, to spectacular visual-effect.
Due to Ronaldo's busy schedule the filming had to take place in Madrid near the football stadium, where the rig and glass had to be sent.
